For the first time, I Can for Kids Foundation will be a participating charity in Shaw Birdies for Kids presented by AltaLink at the Shaw Charity Classic. Since 2013, the Shaw Charity Classic has raised money for children and youth charities across Calgary, while providing Calgarians access to a world-class golf tournament. All proceeds raised for I Can for Kids will be matched through the Birdies for Kids program and go towards feeding children and youth in Calgary during the summer.
This year, golf enthusiasts can watch defending champion, Scott McCarron, take part in the 54 hole competition, as well as other exciting PGA professionals. The Shaw Charity Classic runs from August 29 to September 2 at the Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club. Juniors, under the age of 17, get in for free and early bird pricing is available until June 30.
Birdies for Kids was introduced in 2015 under the Calgary Shaw Charity Classic Foundation, as a new charitable component to the PGA event. In its first year, it raised $2.3 million alone. In 2017, $6.9 million was raised through Birdies for Kids for local charities, contributing to a total of $22.1 million since its inaugural year.
