Understanding food is just the beginning of connection and conversation, I Can for Kids is excited to have the Calgary Police Service (CPS) and the Calgary Fire Department (CFD) assisting us with delivering our food packs, fresh fruit, peanut butter and other delicious treats during the month of August. With I Can for Kids facilitating the opportunity, this partnership opens the door for emergency services to build positive and productive relationships with high-risk kids of all ages, essential to building vibrant and trusting communities.
Along with our food packs, I Can for Kids also provides basketballs, jump ropes, soccer balls, frisbees and other fun activities, offering many ways for CPS and CFD to encourage kids of all ages to come out and have some fun. By connecting with kids through food and fun activities, service members can break down barriers and show a lighter side of the people behind the uniform.
In addition to providing nutritional support, by leaving these items behind, we hope kids will continue to be active for the remainder of the summer, giving them a healthy start to their school year.
Special thanks to our partners Calgary Housing, Women in Need Society and Cornerstone Youth Centre for your support and hospitality. Working together is always better!
