Like superheroes working anonymously to save our city, a wide range of organizations and agencies are working to identify hidden pockets of hunger in our city and helping to reduce its impact.
Through their dedication, families in need across Calgary can access the nutritious, delicious food they require, and in the process reap the physical and emotional benefits of gathering together over a meal.
I Can for Kids is proud to work with a wide variety of community partners and agencies to tackle summer childhood hunger in Calgary. Organizations like Hull Services, Women In Need Society, and many others, help identify the issues of those utilizing their services, and often times food insecurity needs to be addressed. From there, I Can for Kids is able to provide nutritious, non-perishable food packs, peanut butter, and fresh fruit to children and youth in a variety of different situations across the city.
I Can for Kids is such a great offering to vulnerable families in our community. It’s amazing to share about the program with families who had decided ‘they wouldn’t qualify for help’ without asking more about the program. We love that I Can for Kids allows us to be the deciders of how to distribute food, and what criteria needs to be met. This allows us to extend compassion to those who are having a tight week, but perhaps wouldn’t qualify for other help.”

Each of our agency and community partners understands the effects of hunger on children and youth and are eager to work with I Can for Kids to ensure they receive the nutritional support they need over the summer break. By working together, we can help hungry kids get the nutritional support they need for the worry-free summer they deserve and a healthier start to their school year.

“I’m so happy that I found you … so I could say THANK YOU! Been wanting to say that since last summer when my kids first received food packs. Today we received some again, it came just in-time, when my wallet just has $5 left. Grateful for what you do!” – I Can for Kids program recipient (received via Facebook)
